The Toughest Footrace on Earth!
The Marathon des Sables is a self supported 150+ mile 6 day stage race through the Sahara Desert of Morocco. Each year approximately 800 competitors from around the globe travel to Morocco to run. Each participant runs for a different reason, with an individual goal in mind.
The 2009 race is being run by Sam Whitaker, an Urban Blazer Volunteer, to help raise awareness of the Urban Blazers organization and drive fund raising activities that will fund educational and outdoor activities for the underserved youth of Philadelphia.
Besides the volunteers Urban Blazers organization, 25 additional team members have committed their time and efforts to help organize a series of fundraising events, raise awareness and help drive donations. Collectively, we have set out to raise $35,000+ which will be fully dedicated to funding programs for Philadelphia's underserved youth.
